Cantata was formed back in 1992 by Lisa Mills as a group of friends who performed concerts at local churches to raise money for various charities and church funds. Since it began, the group has grown from strength to strength and performed in numerous churches and concert venues around the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, raising over £25,000 for charities and local organisations including; Cancer Research UK, the Alzheimers Society, Treetops Hospice Society and the Children's Society.
We meet once at week at Lisa and Paul’s home in Heanor to rehearse the concert programmes and musical reviews. In 2007, Paul wrote a specially commissioned Musical Murder Mystery that performed to sell out audiences at the Duchess Theatre, Long Eaton. This brought a new challenge to Cantata, and our audiences enjoyed seeing a different side to the groups many talents; something we will be striving to do in the future. Our 2010 season will consist of musical reviews of Modern Musicals featuring songs from West End and Broadway shows of the Last 10 years and modern revival musicals. We have various concert tour dates beginning in January 2010 at local churches in Derbyshire and Nottingham and hope to be returning to the Guildhall Theatre in Derby this year for a joint Brass and Musicals Concert with Diventio Brass.
We hope to see you there!
